Claude Berri, a French director, actor, film producer, and screenwriter, was born in Paris to Polish and Romanian Jewish immigrant parents, Girsh Langmann and Bayla Berku.

His sister, Arlette Langmann (born 1946), is a screenwriter. Berri had two sons: actor and film producer Thomas Langmann (born 1972) and actor Julien Rassam (1968-2002).
